Subject Matter Album Review

Subject Matter are a 4 piece rock band from Dublin the following is my review of their album Smash The Mould

The song Funky Coloured Pitfalls was a great start to the album the gang shouts made me want to join along I'd say this is a great gig starter as there is a insane amount of energy in it at times.

Following this song was Give It To Me Straight the lyrics and vocals on this song are great and it's one of my favourite's it's quick paced and hard hitting everything i enjoy about a song.

What I Know followed and i enjoy it in places especially the bridge halfway through though it can seem a bit messy i don't think the lead guitar fits very well or the backing vocals of ahhhhhhhh and ohhhhhs over all i think the song has the potential to be better if polished up.

Dressed To Depress lives up to it's name with a somber tone all the way through It's a good acoustic song but there's a part of me that wants to hear the rock version i think with less sad and more angry vocals it would make a great rock song, but at the way it is works well with the next song being...

Old Flames has a hard rock with more rap vocals than sang it's a real crunchy tune and it's sure to have people bopping, the addition of screamed vocals is a surprise for it wasn't expected when i listened (even though i did them) i really like this song.

The intro of Death By Monkeys is by far the best on the album a lot of heavy sounding riffs then an excellent bass line the vocals are perfect, solo is well placed, it's definitely their best song on this album, Reminds me a lot of Limp Bizkit at time.

Ground follows DBM well it's a bit slower and brings back to the What I Know style with bit's of the hard rock it's a solid song, however it doesn't stand out.

See Thru Souls slows down more , it's a really cool chill out song, feels a bit pop punky so it stands out against the rest really enjoy this one.

Another acoustic song follows Keep Me With You and i must say if i need a song to serenade someone with i think i know it for sure the vocal timing is perfect guitars perfect this song is great in every way

I am then treated to The Pass At Dark with is another great song with song great instrumental work the solo, bass line and drum beats are so well executed

Different Station's catchy vulgar lyrics make this song a winner and the build up to the end was so enjoyable to listen to and it leads to my second favourite song on this album

O Nani Ama this song is fun, that is the word to describe it bouncy vocals and fast drums make this song a winner and a perfect end to a great album

Over all i liked this album there were parts here and there i didn't so I'll give Smash The Mould 8/10

Keep it up guys stay rocking
